The Parish of Porth Newydd
Open Day 2008
On 31st May 2008, St. John's Church Cymmer opened it's doors to the community so as to give an insight into Church Life
Inside the Church banners were displayed which showed different themes. All the Vicars of St. John's were displayed going back to 1894 with Rev William Thomas. Mothers' Union had a display showing what they do and also pictures of past events. The registers were also on display, always a great favourite with people trying to locate their wedding certificates. Throughout the day a screen displayed hundreds of photos of past events and people and many people sat in the pews as they remembered their past.
The Church Hall was also full with a "Sunday School" section with things to make and do. The Computers displayed the Parish website and another display showed lots of photos of the Pantomines which were once held in the Hall. Communities First also had a display showing the work being done in the area. Refreshments were aplenty and the local Dance team gave an excellent display of their work.
