The Parish of Porth Newydd

Parish Mission Action Planning Day

On 18th September, 2005, the whole Parish came together for a joint Eucharist in St Lukes and this was followed a Mission Action Planning day. Caroline Pascoe and Richard Jones from the Local Ministry Development of the Diocese of Llandaff came along to offer help and guidance in the workshop.

This was the second M.A.P. (Mission Action Planning) day held in the Parish. The joint Parish service (St Luke and St John) started at 10am followed by Coffee in St Lukes Hall. As you can see from the photos below it was an enjoyable and interesting day with many suggestions on how the Parish is to go forward in the coming year. The 1st MAP day provided good ideas and suggestions which have already been implemented. For example this web site was set up, a team of Pastoral Visitors was commissioned by Bishop David Yeoman, The Compass Magazine now sells at 300 copies per month, a Youth Magazine was produced with involvement from the Sunday Schools and we had an excellent study course "Christianity Explored" led by Pat Morris.

Various ideas came out of the 2nd MAP day the most poular being to start up the Panto's again. Other ideas included having a Basic Skills Computer lessons using the computers in St John and St Lukes Church Halls and Creating a Welcome Pack for new visitors to our churches.

The four main themes were as follows, with a list of"hearties" who volunteered their services
