The Parish of Porth Newydd

About UsThe Heritage Park in the Rhondda Valleys

‘Porth’ means ‘Gate’ and The Parish of Porth Newydd is the Gateway to the Rhondda Valleys, what was one of the most famous Coal Producing Valleys in the World. The Parish is part of the Diocese of Llandaff and part of the World Wide Anglican Communion. We hope you enjoy exploring this site and join in the Forum, and we also hope that it may inspire you to come and visit us, to have a look around our three churches or even join us for worship at our one of our many services.

Our Faith

The Church in Wales believes and proclaims the Good News of Jesus Christ, namely:

This is Good News, because it encourages each one of us to realise that God loves us, that he has gone out of his way to meet us in the person of his Son, in whom he accepts us as we are. He asks us to draw on his strength to live life to the full, and to bring healing to the world. We invite you to join with us in sharing this Good News.

The Formal Statements of Faith

The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God,
the Father, the almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father.
Through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation
he came down from heaven;
by the power of the Holy Spirit
he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
and was made man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again
in accordance with the Scriptures;
he ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead,
and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is worshipped and glorified,
who has spoken through the Prophets.

We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
We look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Lambeth Quadrilateral
Lambeth Conference of 1888, Resolution 11

That, in the opinion of this Conference, the following Articles supply a basis on which approach may be, by God's blessing, made towards Home Reunion:

1. The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as "containing all things necessary to salvation," and as being the rule and ultimate standard of faith.

2. The Apostles' Creed, as the Baptismal Symbol; and the Nicene Creed, as the sufficient statement of the Christian faith.

3. The two Sacraments ordained by Christ Himself - Baptism and the Supper of the Lord - ministered with unfailing use of Christ's words of Institution, and of the elements ordained by Him.

4. The Historic Episcopate, locally adapted in the methods of its administration to the varying needs of the nations and peoples called of God into the Unity of His Church.

And in the future

We shall continue to try and learn from God especially in giving and care for Porth.

Our Giving makes everything possible

Here are some testimonies by PCC members

I believe my giving to God through the Church is a reflection of Gods giving to me - the money is used to provide worship - clergy - building and caring for others. Gareth Williams

For me there is a basic Christian need to give just as to pray - to worship - to ask for forgiveness and to be forgiven. Audrey Morgan

For me the chief motive for my giving is gratitude. Margaret Wiltshire

When I realise the Bible has more than 2000 verses on Possessions and how we use them and less than 500 verses on Love and Prayer I had better be serious about my giving. Pat Morris

The whole of the Bible talks a lot about giving back to God in terms of willingness and hearts being stirred up. Val Scott

I know there are enough people who believe enough to love enough to give enough to have a good shot at what God wants us to do here in Porth. Father Graham Lloyd

Be part of the Church today. Glorify God in Giving
